16. Volatile Operating Environment

Organizations are facing much greater disruption than ever before. As a result of this, they are going to have to reconfigure business models and how they approach strategy. This will be underpinned by a need to develop organizational agility – The ability to adapt and shift focus before the next crisis presents itself.

The reality is that we are now in an era of moving from crisis to crisis and organizations have to adapt. We are truly living in unprecedented times. This does have a massive economic impact on organizations of all sizes. There are constant emerging global challenges that are happening today, and they are going to have a long-lasting impact for years to come. Even for an organization to claim that it has a vision today, in some cases, is quite a stretch.

Probably more important than developing a vision is to develop an adaptable strategy to be able to ‘bob and weave’. Sometimes we will be going over roadblocks sometimes we will be going around roadblocks. To develop that level of agility within your organization, you will need to develop an execution-ready strategy and amongst your teams and individuals, you will need to build a capacity for change. To climb this mountain employee engagement and retaining top talent need to be interwoven into the overall strategy of the organization. The most effective weapon in ensuring your strategy is agile and adaptable is ensuring your people are engaged; that they have a purpose in the organization that goes beyond a paycheck.
