This summer I got the opportunity to work as a finance and administration intern at Cora Systems. I worked as part of a dynamic, driven team that operates using the latest financial software. As an undergraduate, I was new to the world of finance but eager to learn. My time in Cora provided me with an insightful and exhilarating experience in this specific area and working life in general.
I initially felt uneasy moving from college to the working environment, but my nerves were quickly put to bed from the moment I arrived. I received a warm welcome and immediately felt part of the growing Cora team. My time in Cora commenced at the front desk. Here is where a lot of behind the scenes work took place. From travel arrangements for Cora employees, to telephone directories, to any other ad-hoc requirements to ensure smooth running of the office. Being at the front desk was a great way to get to know people in various departments and the role they play in making Cora a worldwide leading provider of software technology.
From there, I moved into Finance where my responsibilities varied. I processed employee expenses and supplier invoices, working closely with Cora PPM and Cora’s chosen financial software provider, Xero. I assisted with audit preparation, ensuring receipts were compiled and stored in the online system. The team gave a lot of time, support and patience to facilitate my understanding while also allowing me to shadow them in their various daily activities.
Outside of my role in finance and administration, I got the opportunity to organise the monthly office games which included table tennis and pool. This company initiative along with many others organised by Cora injects a lot of fun into the office and allows employees to break away from their daily routine.
Each day throughout my time in Cora brought new learning opportunities in which enhanced my personal and professional growth. As the summer draws to a close, I would like to thank all of the Cora team for providing me with this fantastic opportunity. I will take this experience with me through my (hopeful) future in finance and accounting.
